What began as an excuse to get back to Africa...

BJ Adventures was founded in 1989 by longtime friends, Betsy Younkins and Jean Zunkel.  Both had lived in Johannesburg on foreign assignments where they became close friends and their families traveled extensively throughout Southern Africa.  Jean went on to another foreign assignment in Luxembourg where Betsy came to visit, and together they attended the Cordon Bleu in Paris.  After returning to the US, they both had their own careers - Betsy as a lobbyist for the oil industry in Washington, DC, and Jean with her own design-marketing company in New York City, focusing on the home furnishings industry.  Jean returned to South Africa with her daughter, Ahdina for a safari in the mid-80s.  The next year Betsy, with family, also returned to Africa for a safari.  There was no turning back at that point!  Because of their mutual love of the continent, they realized they needed to work out a way to get back to Africa on a regular basis...so they started their own travel business, specializing in authentic mobile safaris in Southern Africa.  During the early days they traveled with friends and family, but as the client list grew, people wanted to know where else they could travel with BJ Adventures.  BJ Adventures now travels the world!
