Experience the wonderful folk art, culture, and history of South Africa. You’ll engage with artists in their home communities, enjoy TWO safaris, dine at award-winning restaurants, and have a multitude of opportunities to shop for unique art and more. Explore this captivating destination with us!
Trip Highlights:
- Start with some sight seeing in Cape Town at the Montebello Design Center and later see the beaded work at Monkey Biz, and story cloths at Heartworks, both past participants at the International Folk Art Market 
- Meet the owner of Home-Design Africa, who will give us an introduction to folk art in South Africa, and later have dinner with collector and gallery owner Elbé Coetsee to discuss South African art and her personal art collection 
- Stop in charming Stanford to nosh at the award-winning Madre; visit the art studio of Jero Revett: ocean lover, surfer, diver, fisherman, and artist who uses the sea to create original gyotaku, cyanotype and woodcut art.; and shop! 
- Journey to Barrydale to tour the Barrydale Hand Weavers facilities and learn more about their high-quality, hand-crafted textiles and later take an afternoon game drive before overnighting at a game lodge 
- Drive to Montagu to harvest fynbos on a farm and make products you can take home with you with the pros at Fijn Botanicals 
- Fly to Durban to visit the colorful Friday Bead Market, meet members of the Woza Moya group, the wire basket weavers from MOIFA’s iNgqikithi yokuPhica / Weaving Meanings: Telephone Wire Art from South Africa exhibition, Zulu Gal Retro (famous in Santa Fe for her beaded glasses) and take a day trip to Eshowe to visit the Vukani Museum, seeing work from Folk Art Market artists like Jabu Nala, Angeline Masuku, and others 
- Drive to Hluhluwe to stay at the Rhino Ridge Lodge to spot some of the Big Five. Venture to Hlabisa to meet IFAM artist Beauty Ngxongo and learn about the crafts being created in that area before flying to Johannesburg to visit the famous Kim Sacks Gallery —among other sightseeing! - … And SO MUCH more! Your stays in boutique hotels and fabulous lodges along the way will provide the perfect place to relax and recharge after busy days spent exploring these wonderful communities! 
Price per person: $12,690 (sharing), $1500 single supplement; $2000 non-refundable deposit and a $500 per person tax deductible donation made directly to IFAM (to receive a tax deductible receipt) due at time of booking.
